Complex of Seyid-Biy and Palvan-Kari Minaret, Khiva, Uzbekistan



Beyond the walls of Ichan-Kala at Palvan-Darvoza gated there is a small complex of religious constructions built in the time of Alla-Kuli khan by rich merchant Seyid Shelliker-biy. The complex consists of a nine-dome mosque with carved wooden columns of the late 18th - early 19th, two-storied madrasah and a minaret more than 30 meters high, topped with a stalactitic cornice and arch lantern. In the same street stands Palvan-Kari cylindrical minaret construction of which dates back to the end of 19th - beginning of 20th centuries. The minaret is decorated with belts of figured bricks and ornamental green glazed 'bows'.
