The Art Museum in Tashkent, a remarkable cubic building made of stain and glass, was established in 1918, under the first University founded in Tashkent by a huge group of Russian scientists and teachers. In the following years it gained collections of other museums as well as private individuals and created a huge collection of arts, paintings and sculptures. Nowadays it exhibits masterpieces of famous Russian, West European and Central Asian artists, for example, V. Borovikovsky, V. Tropinin, K. Briullov, N. Jaroshenko, Repin and others. The museum was able to aquire from private collections about 250 paintings by pre-revolutionary artists who created their works in Central Asia, for example, I. Kazakova, N. Karazin, R. Sommer.
