The Abul Kosim Madrassah is located behind the massive concert hall of Soviet time, on a vast empty area near the Parliament of Uzbekistan. The building was erected in honor of a merchant named Abul Kosim, known for charity in mid 19th century. Currently the building is occupied by the Uzbek Association of Handcrafts. In the small cells of the madrassah, the artisans and designers industriously work on various items such as laquered boxes with miniatures, blockprinting on skin, carved wood etc.
